Maido

Maido! was founded in 2003 by Seiko Dailey and is the only Japanese-owned grocery store in the Greater Philadelphia area. We opened our first store in Narberth, and we moved to Ardmore to expand our store. Our name comes from the greeting often heard in the Kansai region of western Japan (such as Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe). "Maido!" could literally translate as "every time", but in the Kansai region, it is used as a friendly greeting to your best customers and more closely translates as "Nice to see you again!" When combined with the Osaka-dialect for thank you ("Maido okini"), it translates as "Thank you for your continued patronage".
